Six Signs Your Home Is Asking for EV Charger Installation

Most people book us the week the car arrives. A few of these show up earlier than that.

  • The car is on order, and you have realised the garage has one double point in it, shared with the freezer.
  • You are charging off a standard power point through an extension lead, which was never meant to run for eight hours.
  • That point, or the lead, is warm when you unplug in the morning.
  • Overnight charging is not getting you full, so the daily commute starts with a compromise.
  • A second EV is coming and one charger will now have to be shared or duplicated.
  • You want the tariff to work for you, which means the charger has to talk to a meter and a timer.

What Our EV Charger Installation Work Covers

A charger install is a dedicated circuit with a smart box on the end of it. The box takes an hour; everything upstream of it is the actual job.

Here is what we handle.

  • Load and capacity assessment. Working out what your supply and board can carry with a charger added, before anyone promises you anything.
  • A dedicated circuit, properly protected. Correct cable size for the run, its own protection, and the isolation the unit needs.
  • Wallbox mounting and commissioning. Unit fixed, set up, connected to your app or tariff, and proven on the car.
  • Board work where it is needed. If there is no spare capacity, the board comes first and the charger follows.
  • Supply upgrades. Where the mains themselves are the limit, that becomes Level 2 work and we handle that side too.
  • Strata and shared parking. Metering that bills the right person, and documentation your committee can actually read.

What Your EV Charger Installation Quote Depends On

Two chargers of the same model, two streets apart, are rarely the same price. This is what we are measuring when we walk your place.

  • The distance from board to car. Every metre of that run is cable and labour, and it is usually the biggest single item.
  • What the cable has to cross. A double-brick wall has no cavity to fish, so the route gets planned and run in conduit rather than hidden in a stud wall.
  • Whether the ground is involved. Reaching a detached garage means trenching, and Eastwood sits on shale and reactive clay, which is slow digging on a good day.
  • What your board has left. Spare ways and spare capacity decide whether this is one job or two.
  • The charger and the tariff. Three-phase supply or single, tethered lead or socket, and whether the unit has to talk to your meter.

You get a free written quote covering the lot. Anything nobody could have foreseen gets raised and re-priced with you, never quietly added to the invoice.

EV Charger Installation in Eastwood Homes

The wall decides the job here, and Eastwood has four of them.

Houses across the suburb are brick, double-brick, brick-veneer and weatherboard, and a charger has to get from your board to your car through whichever one you own.

Brick-veneer and weatherboard give us a cavity, so the run can disappear into the wall. Double-brick gives us nothing, and the cable goes in surface conduit on a route we agree with you first, because you are the one looking at it every day.

That single difference is why we will not price this over the phone. We need to see the board, the parking spot and the wall between them.

Get it right and the run is invisible. Get it wrong and you have a grey pipe down the front of the house forever.

What NSW Requires for EV Charger Installation

An EV charger is a dedicated circuit, and it goes in to the AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules like any other. Those rules set the cable size, the protection and the isolation your unit needs.

This is notifiable electrical work. You get a certificate of compliance for electrical work, lodged with NSW Fair Trading, and it is worth filing with your house papers.

Two things people do not expect. A charger cannot legally hang off a normal power point circuit, and your board may need bringing up to standard before the charger is allowed on at all.

Ours is a real licence you can check yourself: Lic #452529C, verifiable on the NSW register in about a minute.

Our EV Charger Installation Process, Start to Finish

Most installs are half a day where the board has room and the run is short. Add a board upgrade or a trench and you are looking at a full day, occasionally two.

  1. We assess the site. Board, supply, parking spot, wall, and the route between them, with you there to say where the cable can and cannot go.
  2. The quote lands. On paper, broken down line by line, talked through while we are standing there, and locked the moment you accept it.
  3. We install and commission. Circuit run, unit mounted, protection fitted, then set up and charged on your own car before we pack up.
  4. Testing, then paperwork. The whole install is tested before we sign off, the certificate goes in, and we walk you through the app.

Why This Is a Job for Our Team

Chargers are the newest thing on most boards and the least forgiving. A 32-amp circuit pulling for eight hours a night finds every lazy termination in the house.

We assess the whole supply before quoting, not just the wall. One approach gives you a charger that just works; the other gives you a house that trips every second night.

And the certificate of compliance for electrical work is not an optional extra on our jobs. It is how you prove the install was legitimate, whether that is for insurance, for strata, or for whoever buys the place off you.

EV Charger Installation Across Eastwood and Surrounding Areas

Chargers rarely arrive alone. Half of them come with board work attached, and a decent number end up alongside garage and outdoor lighting while the walls are open.

Common questions

Your EV Charger Installation FAQs

The questions we get asked most, usually while the car is still on order.

Does EV charger installation work for apartments and strata in Eastwood?

Often, yes, but the paperwork is the slow part rather than the wiring. Strata has to approve the install and the metering arrangement, and we are happy to put the technical detail in front of your committee in plain English.

What should be ready for us on install day?

Clear space at the board and at the wall where the unit goes, plus the car keys if you want it proven on your own vehicle. If the charger came in a box, leave it sealed and we will do the unpacking.

What does EV charger installation usually cost?

It depends on the distance from your board to the parking spot, whether your board has room, and what the wall is made of. We look at all three on site and put a fixed price in writing before anything starts.

What gear goes into an EV charger job?

The charger is usually your call, since most people buy the one their car maker recommends. Everything behind it, the protection, the isolator and the circuit, is ours, and that is where the name brands go in.

Does an older house change how the charger goes in?

It changes the route more than the result. Double-brick homes need the cable run planned instead of fished, and a board with no spare capacity gets sorted first so the charger has something safe to hang off.

Are weekend times available for EV charger installation around Eastwood?

Weekday bookings are our normal run, often same or next day, and we keep some Saturday slots for people who cannot be home midweek. Ask on the phone and we will find something that suits.
